A filling is often recommended if a tooth is decayed or broken. Options include:

Amalgam fillings

Amalgam fillings have been used for many years and are still a viable, safe and strong filling material which can be used in many cases. Amalgam fillings are often the most cost effective option for filling back teeth.

Composite resin fillings

Commonly known as a “white filling”, composite resin can be used as an alternative to amalgam in most cases in back teeth, and is widely used for fillings in front teeth. Composite resin has excellent cosmetic properties as it is tooth coloured. The placement of these fillings is more technique sensitive than that of amalgam restorations which means they do take longer to place and are more expensive.
